If I were you I would pull everything off the frame, shorten it, and then retract your statement. :D

bryantracing460 has the right idea but take the easy way out, selectively delete everything in this thread that refers to it.

(Hmmm... where have I seen that done before?)

FWIW, I was talking with a guy that owns a 71 Ford LWB awhile back and we were talking about how from some angles the long beds don't look that long. His thought was that the Ford cabs are bigger than the Chevy cabs, so the proportions on a long bed Ford don't look as bad as on a Chevy LWB. Looking at the Fords straight on, a LWB is easy to pick up on. From an angle, its not so obvious.

 That thought DID cross my mind...that is, modifying the thread. ;) But although a certain other Ford forum might consider that 'business as usual', that ain't how we do things around here. I guess I can take my lumps.

I picked up the trailer this evening after work and then headed to the shop for a few minutes to get it straightened out a bit and make room for the F250. I got to looking at that poor sandblasted cab sitting there, remembering the countless hours of work I have into it, and almost feeling sad that it was more than likely going to be headed to the scrapyard. However, I DO have to admit that the thought crossed my mind to maybe hang onto it for a while, and maybe use it as a guinea pig for some custom work...maybe like a 6" chop or something similar. I don't know....we'll see.

Keith, I consider myself really lucky with my 67 project. I searched high and low for an unrusted loaded 67 Ranger and found one a mile from my house four years ago...it was owned by a painting contractor and on a job site just before he sold it a cement truck backed the chute through the perfect grille and punctured the radiator. I paid 1200 bucks for it just because the rest of the truck was so nice. But I needed a grille....One day driving home from work, I found a 69K mile unrusted blue/white 67 ranger, nicer than the one I had! $400 dollars later I had another 67 Ford pickup. Long story short is I took everything off that truck I could and then trailered the PERFECT cab to the local wrecker. Ignorance is not bliss, and I hope somebody wound up with the cab of that truck. rick

 Oh man, I didn't need to hear THAT, Rick!! Well, if truth be told, I've done the same thing from time to time in my past, when I really didn't know better, or care.

However, now with the internet in general, and Ebay and this website & forums specifically, we need to spread the word that nobody should every throw away anything at any time anymore that's even remotely useable! Somebody somewhere is wishing they had what you're throwing away. We need to stick together and help each other out...if you don't want it, at least least give some of the other Ford fanatics a chance at it.

I've learned this lesson several times over the past couple years. I've listed parts on E-bay that I was sure nobody would want, but at the last second decided to throw it up on E-bay and see what it would get. Most items I'd have given away if somebody had come in my shop and asked for them, but they ended up getting some very respectable $$$ on Ebay.

Keith, I think you should use the cab for something too. Even if just to practice on and try to weld the new metal in.

I think you should chop it, and then you could write up a tutorial, showing the rest of us how to do it! :D

Keith,

I haven't had the opportunity to say congratulations...I've been on leave and not around a computer.

I applaud the purchase. Since I can't get one over here in Germany, I encourage you to get them all. I know to most folks it seems fanatical, but I plan on getting everyone I can when I get home...in Nov 2007.

So, good job.

Thanks guys!

Well, I just walked in the door about 30 minutes ago....got the truck home. Here's a shot taken by my wife of Gary and I loading it on the trailer.

Image

MAN, this was a major PIA! It turns out that the chrome wagon-wheel rims were offset quite a bit to the outside, increasing the track width of the truck by several inches. We found out that it was actually about 1/4" wider than the siderails! We tried forcing it on, but it just wasn't budging, so we ended up having to jack the front end up with a hydraulic jack to where the wheels were higher than the siderails, and then it was a combination of pulling on the jack and winching it on that finally brought it up. When we FINALLY got it all the way on and dropped the jack, the front end wedged itself so tightly in between the siderails that the front tires are actually an inch off the trailer floor....and it rode like that, bouncing around on the freeway and highways, all the way home!

I was supposed to unload the truck this evening and return the trailer, but had to call the guy I borrowed it from to tell him that it was going to be a major operation unloading this truck, and since it was dark by the time we made it home, we'd have to keep the trailer overnight and attempt to unwedge it in the morning. I'm STILL trying to figure out how the heck I"m gonna accomplish that. It's almost looking like we're gonna have to tie the back of the truck to a tree and pull out from under it.

So anyway, we just backed the trailer into the shop and called it a night. I'll be at it first thing in the morning trying to unstick this thing. I took a bunch of pictures of today's adventures and will be posting them to an update page later this evening, before I call it a night. I'll post a pointer to it in this thread when I get it done, for anyone who's interested. :D

Hooking it to a tree and pulling is the best method ever. We do that all the time to unload tractors and some equipment.
