Today has been good.

Post by towtruckerfour »

At my job I get paid flat rate which sucks. It is not working for me financially to stay at the dealership doing detailing. I went on a job interview today for a shipping position and got it. I now have a hourly job and don't have to work saturdays anymore except on special occasions. Then I came home and worked on the new motor for the 68. I have been fighting the bolts holding the flywheel on. After a little heat from a torch and some gentle persuasion from a wrench and hammer, I got them loose. I tried the flywheel from the 390 and it fits the 352. Now I just have to swap distributors and oil pans and it should be ready to go in. I'm getting closer to having the highboy up and going. I can't wait.

That's cool. I'm not a big fan of flat rate work, really seems to breed greed and contempt when you can do an 8hr job in 2hrs. Seems the customer is getting cheated. I guess being on the backside of that curve would make you a slave to your work...

When I worked for Jeep I could do (3) 60,000 mile services (plus brakes) in a day and flag over 24 hrs. in an 9 hr. period. Of course that was with no lunch, no breaks. They change the pay structure and now a lot of guys are getting paid a straight hourly rate for 8 hrs. It doesn't pay to work at a dealership anymore.
