Dent a Bump!

Post by In FORD we trust »

I have a 17 year old son who wanted to use the garage to put a new stereo in his car. Well, I'm OK with that, so I back my 68 out of her spot and let my son go to work. Now its getting late and I'm getting ready for bed. I tell my son to pull the truck back in the garage when he's thru using the garage and I go to bed. A 16' garage door and plenty of room and he hits the side of the garage and puts a dent in my door from the mirror. It has the big Camper Special mirrors that stick out. Man was I ticked off. He said he was sorry and all. What's a dad to do? I just had to vent to you guys a little. I don't think anyone else truly knows how we feel about our trucks! Thank God for paintless dent repair.

I can feel the pain. Back in the 80's I left my pride and joy, a 65 Camper Special, in the hands of my 16 year old son while I was deployed on the Kiska AE-35.
(Ammo Ship). It was showroom nice with a built 390. My truck not the ship. LOL. 11 months later when I finally returned she had bald back tires, and a dent in front of the drivers side rear tire. Of course he was out drag racing, what did I expect. I was the same way at 16.
Raise em, love em, and hope they turn out ok.
Now I have a 68 Camper Special.
May your sails stay full, and your knots not slip. Unless a slip knot.

Yea I know both sides of the story. I'm 40 now and know how I treated my dads trucks when I lived at home. Thats why my daughter has her own car and knows not to ask to drive my stuff unless I'm with her. She my not be rough on them but I also know how I drove the girls cars when I was young. :D :shh: Could you imagine how a seventeen yr old boy would drive my 69 ranger not to say how they would act in my 1967 super sport chevelle with 502 and 411 rearend. :nono: :nono:

I agree with above posts. I'll have to say, there's not just the "teenage immaturity" factor for young people driving old stuff, but there's also the "I've never drove a car/truck with manual everything" factor. A lot of the young generation today has NO experience driving something big like a bump, something without power-steering, something without power brakes, something with a big block V8, and definitley something with a 3 on the tree set-up. I am in my 20s but I don't let my friends drive my bump without me "teaching" them. Then, I'd only let them drive it with me riding shotgun.

I feel your pain and your son's embarrasment/shame as well. I put a few dents in my dad's stuff when I was a teenager. Had my sons put a few dents in my cars as well. One time my son backed my car into my truck and dented them both in one shot without ever leaving the driveway. :hmm:

On the flip side of the coin I have my grandfathers 1994 F150. I totalled it out 3 years ago. After years of work to get the body back into shap and get everythng straigtened back out, I had the truck to shere I could start sanding and prepping i for paint. Its mostly BRIGHT RED. While backing through the yard he "didnt see it" and put a HUGE dent in the side of the bed, creased in the dent that runs along the bed, so I now have to replace that whole panel. It was parked in the BACK yard where noone else parks, his comment was "it was in my way" .......................

P.S. im 21 and remoddeling a home, its scheduled to be move in ready in JAN, just for the record, I didnt want you all thinking in 39 an still living at home LOL. The truck would be im my yard but its currently filled with building material and its small.
1969 F100. All factory 360, 4-speed, candy apple red one owner. Incredible truck!
