I read some about this last night, it seems the thought behind the Mexican law is to make "personal use" quantities legal, so they can free up resources to go after the big traffickers. On that level, it makes sense to me...Mexico is apparently turning into a nation of drug users as well as producers/transporters. I wonder how that phone call between Vicente Fox and Dubya went
The whole US approach makes no sense to me at all...billions and billions of dollars later (War on Drugs funding) you can still get anything you want almost anywhere in the US. Hasn't made a dent. I am not advocating drug use, or making illegal drugs legal. I'm saying that supply and demand is a law that is as old as mankind itself. If there is a demand, and money to be made, there will be a supply. It has always been that way (Prohibition is the classic example).
Matt is right you can get anything you want "black market" if you want it bad enough...I had a friend i worked with at the bakery and he was from thialand and he said he love this country because when he came to it he got 7 years of not being taxed.. So i guess to me there are bigger issue with our Government because there immigration laws are only a small part of it... To me were the higest taxed country and we have the biggest debt...Where is the logic in that? To me i think congress everytime the get in office what's the first thing the do? Give themselves a raise....Sorry just a touchy subject ..When you have the average guy trying to raise a family and it's hard for him to make it..that's all..Terry
The dumbest question in the world is the one you don't ask.
we are not the highest taxed by far- i know it feels like it- some countries have as much as 30% income tax- and try to buy a car and then really feel the pain- it's bad here but not as bad as some other places- i guess that's what they use to keep us in line

Unfortunately, the politicians here have become representatives of big money instead of representing us. The current anti earmark and pork barrel legislation is a joke IMO. We passed the point where they have our interests in mind a long time ago. The bottom line is, the political system is broken...it just doesn't work anymore. You could say the same thing about the judicial system and the educational system. We're headed for serious trouble, especially when you consider that we have what is likely the most heavily armed civilian population of any nation.
Mytmatt, The purpose of political power is to have more power and that means money and more money. I think you just answered your own question the way I see it.
The whole US approach makes no sense to me at all...billions and billions of dollars later
Billions and Billions spent and nothing has changed except somebody has the political power from spending all those billions and some body has all those billions and the power that goes with having it and it is not us the average American. Or at least I didnt get my share. JMO Charles
