i have plans to make a portable garage out of pvc and tarp. the garage would have all 4 sides and a roof of course.
it would come so handy by protecting my truck from rain, a pretty nice paintbooth, and allowing me to work on it winter long!
i figure it will cost about 150-200 . my dad can get a pretty good deal on tarp since he sells it.
i spent some time doing measurements on my truck and this is what i came up with:

24 ft in length, since the truck is about 18 ft long.

15 ft wide, since the truck is 7 ft wide plus door space on both sides.

and im not sure on height. i want to be able to stand in the bed and maybe even on the sides of the bed to be able to paint the top of the cab.

and i will rope it down/use rocks or whatever so it wont fly away with my truck

i will also run electricity, so i can run a fan and maybe a radio or something.
oh, and a plasma tv with satalite on the roof with surround sound and a fridge and couch and bathroom and i think that will do it

anything im missing? any tips? thoughts?

get a trucker's Flatbed tarp. it'll last forever....

that would be neat but i dont want to get too expensive and i wont be stabbing the tarp so i dont think i need a really nice tarp. i can always replace if it spontaniously combusts or something.

You reminber I told you about this idea with the pvc pipe and the tarp in some other post you made?? Well the other night I saw it on tv DIY. So you might look www.diynet.com and see if you can find it in the autos!! To hold ever thing down your might use tent stakes if your doing it in the grass. But it is ca so there not much grass there no im just kiding . I have lookd on the site and can't find any thing but you might have better luck then me. + thay have some good tips on body work and painting

i plan on sheltering the whole truck but that did help me out though because of the fan idea. i think ill do the same with the fan/filter. thanks for the link

if that shelter was just a little bigger, i would buy it. but i need room for painting and taking stuff apart.
my plans are 3 ft wider, and 4 ft longer. thanks for the link though.

i forgot to add my thingy doodad. the pipes without red lines that go to the top pipe, i am not sure on the length. 5 ft maybe?
if they are 5 ft, then the total feet needed is 150. wich will be $76.65 for 1.5 in. pvc pipe at Lowe's. plus i will need connecters. anyone have any ideas on connecting pvc where there are angles that arnt made? my dad might have some ideas, but its better to have more opinions.

you are probably going to want at least one more post on each side!!! Pvc sags!!! as for angles keep it simple go with 45 deg and 90 deg, the problem with that is going to be really tall, but im not sure how common connectors in different angles are!

How about laying out a gridwork on the ground, laying the tarp over it and securing it with elastic then rolling the long ends under, forming an arch?
It will stretch the elastic and keep the tarp taught, and you would only need a few fittings instead of a bunch.

To hold the pvc pipe drill you some holes and get you some nuts and bolts and put them in the hole you drilld. A esey way to do the roof it just make one side taller and the other side about 2 feet shorter. And it will need braseing ever 5 6 feet if your going to use the little 1inch pipe. That way the wind wont have as a big chane to bust the pipe.

We used to use alot of these at the autocrosses.

Google "canopy kit" and you'll find many sources that include the tarp and fittings and are designed to use metal conduit.

We just did that for a buddys 5th camper,cept we used galvinized fence post. If your making it 24 ft long at the very least go 6 ft between each pole, specially with pvc. will make it alot easier to tie the tarp down tight and be alot more sturdier.

I would do the top as well. thats where the the tarp really has to lay down.otherwise it could sag and make all kinds of racket if its windy..plus if you get alot of rain or snow..you dont want to be working under it and next thing you know you are wearing a tarp on your head

not sure if i will be able to get alot done this weekend since there is suppose to be rain on saturday and on sunday im probably going dirtbiking. i should be able to get the materials if i find out how much i need in time. i should be able to in a little while. once ive checked out the forums.
