Garage filth

Post by flyboy71 »

So today Im out in the garage spending quality time with the welder and grinder and messing around with the truck making dust and rust. ..then I had to clean up the mess afterwards. So the thought hits me.....why is it in most car and truck magazines when they have such a project, they dont have crap all over the shop floor, or tools scattered around, or puddles of fluid or look like they spent a day in a coal mine? Do they actually clean up between photo shots or whats the deal? Maybe I need to clean up more while I work, I dunno.

I try to keep my shop clean, but its a tough row to hoe. My main problem is lack of space.

Im not a fan of the mags, due to the fact they look clean as clean can be. To me it makes everything look fake.

The shows on spike tv are even worse. I want to see some old boy out in his driveway, on his back, no creeper, doing it the old fashond way, just like I have to do

Haha. At least you have a usable garage.
My house was built in the 50s or 60s (still has the little round fuses :O ) and the garage is so small. It's narrow and the door opening is less than 7 ft...

i cant use the garage i have for working on cars or trucks. it is too small. it is only for parking so i work in the gravel drive in the alley way. after every day of workign on a project. i police the area by hand picking up cigarette butts and small pieces of cars part whatever trash that has blown down the alley onto my property. but i still have misc small stuff that i find days after a project. i need to do a good recleaning again between the last two projects i did. my guess is they do clean up before taking pictures for mags or tv.

Or maybe they have two garages.. One where the work is done, the other where the filming is done.

I don't know why they have it all clean. I mean, It's probobly to make things look allot better, and get people to wanna look at the magazines and all that, but to me, I'd rather see some guy dirty like hell working on the truck, than clean as a whistle, with only a little bit of dirt/grease on those gloves.

you know part of photography is lighting detail focus and background. if the back ground is dirty and nasty. that lessens the quality of the photo and what you are trying to say or even sell.

In the words of one of my two favorite brothers. (Charlie and Jack).

"I aint' even got a garage you can call home and ask my wife!"

I do however feel lucky to have the truck under the carport for now.

I'm constantly dragging out the shop vac to vacuum metal filings from the concrete, (keeps them out of my dogs feet-mine as well). And also use a blower to keep the leaves/dirt and whatnot off the concrete.
It is a constant battle! :(

Looking at those mags and Tv shows is like looking at Playboy mag-some unrealistic, unobtainable fantasy

It took me a good part of a Saturday to clean up after finishing my freeze plug replacement job. Now I'm going to mess it all up again putting the motor in the highboy once its ready to go in. I just try to keep it straightened up and clean up any oil spills. Its not very often we just get to just park in there. I'm always working on something.

Why is it that the trucks are always the best running vehicles in the family?
