Re: 460 swap
If you're going low budget you can use a rear sump pan from a ford van.
On the dent trucks in place of the 400 you can use 390 car mounts swap left for right and egg shape two holes.
If you have the money check out L and L products they have everything you need.

Re: 460 swap
Or you can get the 460 mounts out of a dent. Bolt in affair.

Re: 460 swap
No not that style , the style that has a stud that drops into the frame mount.fordman wrote:how is it possible to use 390 mounts in place of the dentside 460 mounts like in the picture?
You have to swap the left for the right and only use two of the three holes ,and enlarge them.
I've done it this way and had the L and L mounts the L&L is the better way to go but they cost more.
In my neck of the woods you don't find many 460 dents in the bone yard.

Re: 460 swap
i always thought the 460 truck mounts were metal cups that went over those mounts in the previous picture. but i guess they do make others for cars. so maybe thats how they have studs that drop into the perches.

Re: 460 swap
I see what your saying, but knowing how much power these engines can easily put out, I would want something pretty solid. The factory set up looks more solid in my opinion. I mean heck, with the factory set up you have 2 grade 8 bolts holding the block to the tower on each side.

Re: 460 swap
I would recomend not skimping on motor mounts. I tore the stud and nut right through the perch on the driver side of my '70 F100 4x4. It is a stock 360(i think) and it is completly worn out, of course it is a homemade off road truck and i was rodding the piss out of it to get through the mud hole. Its so worn out that I have to hold it to the floor in 2nd gear to turn 35/12.5r15 mickey thompson baja claws and it has a NP435 and 4.10 gears
. Thank god I have a rebuilt 390 with 50,000 miles ready to go in it when i get the time or the 360 blows and I make the time.

1970 F100 4x4, 360 FE, NP435, 9", factory 4.10, Homemade 4" lift, 35/12.5R15 MT Baja Claws- ultra budget 4x4 toy

Re: 460 swap
Wow thats pricey.
Wonder if you posted in the parts wanted section looking for 4x4 460 mounts, maybe somebody would have some factory ones.
Looks like the kits from L&L have a rear sump pan.
Or just get these mounts.

Do you already have a 460 engine?
Reuse the alternator brackets you have now on the 460. Get a power steering bracket off of a 460 in a 4x4 (If there is a difference between the pump brackets in a 4x2 and 4x4 I do not know). Get a rear sump pan from Summit or Jegs.
Like I sad post in the wanted section for what you need. Also post in the wanted section at 460ford.com, or the stuff for sale section of 429-460.com.
I think you should be able to do the entire swap for $1300.
Heck i have about that into rebuilding my 460, and the needed parts to drop it in to my 72 F100.
On those two sites there are also a group of truck pulling guys that can point you in the direction of what you need.

Or a stock one from ford .OldRedFord wrote: Get a rear sump pan from Summit or Jegs.
A pan ,pickup/screen and dipstick used to be around $200.
I don't know what it is now, there are different apps early vans and later 4x4 or maybe a mustang conversion?

I think there is one of each. One for vans, one for 4x4s, and a Mustang swap pan.

Re: 460 swap
Basically you need a rear sump pan to clear the front diff so any should work ,it depends if you a good deal on one.big orange wrote:Will they all fit in the bump??
If you have enough lift you can get away with a front sump , but make sure it doesn't hit when the suspension is compressed.
