No. All V8 bumpside trucks came with a 2-bbl, all 6-cyl came with a 1-bbl.

Sorry to have to pull this on you Keith but that's not entirely true.

Bumps with the Generator PowerPack did in fact have two carburetors, one on the engine and one on the generator. :hd:

Trucks weren't really seen as sporty until later on, they were mostly utilitarian.

Well, generally speaking, you add a 4bbl carb when a 2-bbl won't add enough fuel at higher RPMs. Since these trucks were designed to be workhorses usually running at relatively low RPMs, a 2-bbl will give it all the fuel it needs.

Why? These old beasts didn't need a 4bbl carb. They run just fine with the old 2bbls.

My intake is a 4v cast iron job. I don't remember the number, but there was a D, a 5, and a T. 1975 truck?

Understand the engineering behind carburetor selection:

The number of barrels is by itself an irrelevant measure. The useful factor is CFM; 'cubic feet per minute' of air flow into the engine.
Whether you achieve, for example, 600 cfm through 2 or 4 barrels, the engine depends on the 600 cfm and NOT the number of barrels the air flowed through in getting into the combustion chambers.

One barrel, two barrel, tri-power, six-pack, four barrel, dual quad, throttle body, TPI, whatever, the engine requires a quantity of air and couldn't care less how many barrels the air has to flow through to do its job.

That being said, it is a fact that more barrels typically enable greater quantities of air to flow and that is why you see multi-barrel carburetors or multi-carburetors being utilized on larger displacement engines.

I am a marine engineer by trade and appreciate the verifiably proven science behind the numbers of internal combustion engine operation.

Why do I like these old Fords? The simplicity baby, the simplicity.

1997 Expedition -4.6L, 4WD, 14MPG, gutless? yeah, she's gutless.
2001 Kawasaki ZRX1200R, fast? yeah, she's fast.
