Mine is not an antique. I have been waiting 4 1/2 years for that to happen. Where I live it is just an old truck.R.Smith wrote: I don't think a car or truck can be truely considered an antique until someone walks by while you're pumping gas and says "hey...look at that cool old truck".

Or if you see the ground under the engine.R.Smith wrote:Another good way to judge is to open the hood. If you can actually see the engine, it's an antique.
Or if you drop a tool and it hits the ground ,instead of being lost somewhere in between.

In PA it's 25 years or older. They want 4 pics. It must appear original. Trucks can't haul anything, not even folding chairs to a show. No aftermarket wheels and no trailer hitches. You're limited to 5000 miles per year. Law says it can't be on the road before dawn or after dusk. Cops only enforce that on very old vehicles that do not meet modern lighting standards. I paid a one time fee of $138 and I'm done. No renewals and no more inspections.

If it has more metal than plastic, it's an antique.R.Smith wrote:Another good way to judge is to open the hood. If you can actually see the engine, it's an antique.

Plus I think we can put a plate the year of our truck on the back as long as we have the real plate somewhere n the truck.70_F100 wrote:Here in NC, you can get Antique Auto plates for any vehicle that's 35 years old.
What really helps out is that any vehicle 35 years old or older doesn't have to have a State Inspection.
From what I read, they figure that anybody driving a vehicle that old is taking really good care of it and/or its being/been restored.

Virginia is a lot looser with it's restrictions. You can pretty much drive your antique tagged vehicle anywhere, anytime. The law says on weekends, to shows, holidays, to have it worked on or 250 miles from your home for "pleasure driving" so, that pretty much covers everything. They're reactive when it come to enforcement, and by that I mean they get you when you have an accident or get pulled for speeding ect. That's when the questions start and the tickets fly.
As for people stopping to look, I guess it depends on where you park it. I went to the local gun store Saturday with a friend. I parked right in front by the door in between all the new dodges, chevys, Toyotas and Fords. After we came out we went next door, got some BBQ and sat out on the patio to eat and watch just about every guy that came out or went into the gun shop stop to look at the bump. I can't read lips but I know exactly what they were saying. "My dad had one of these" or "I wish I still had my 69" ect... I went up into the mountains a few weeks ago to pick up an antique refrigerator. I stopped at a store in the town of Buchanan and when I came out, there was a guy looking at the bump. He asked me what I'd paid for it and said he'd give me that plus $500 right now if I'd sell it. Annd it's not a show truck. Hell, I painted it with rattle cans in the driveway last fall!

Well all my friends say I am antique. So anything built before 1949.
