Purchasing 1967 F100 ????

Hi,

This is my first post. I am considering purchasing a 1967 Ford F100. It is a rust free truck. The numbers seem to match. It has a 352 with an automatic trans and seems mostly original except for a newer paint job that appears to be redone in the original color. What would you guess the value is? I have not driven it yet, the owner says it runs but is difficult to stop due to the lack of power breaks. I would just clean it up and make it a weekend vehicle. I dont want to spend more than it is worth. Thanks for the help.

Make certain that the cab mounts/floor/cab corners plus bed are in good shape. Look down the truck carefully with good lighting to see if body filler has been used especially since you believe it to be re-painted. You didn't say what state you are from,but here on the Pennsylvania/Ohio border because everything that old has long rusted out a very good solid truck could command 2500$ on up.

Difficult to stop as in the brakes are bad or as in compared to disc brakes? Yes these old rigs do stop slower than truck with 4 wheel disc brakes but my brakes are 10 years old and stop fine.

And ditto on the body filler. I gave $1,500 for my bump, it has solid floor pans, cab corners etc. The only bad places were a small place in the driver door and along the bump in the bed sides. Body filler can hide a multitude of sin.

It appeared straight but I didnt put a magnet on it. The gaps are good and other than weather stripping it seems to be in really good condition. The owner said $2000. I would offer him less. I just don't want to get hung with it if I decide to sell it.

Sounds to me like you're not ready for a bump yet...
Yes, these trucks do require some work to keep them running realizing they are over 40 years old now.
I gave more for that for my truck when I originally bought it. But I also knew I was gonna' keep the truck, and pretty much knew what I was getting into having owned 4 or 5 Ford trucks before it.
Good luck with your decision, it is a pretty decent looking truck.

Im still doing little things to my bump 90 days after purchase. It sat in a barn and was not driven since 2000. i have always wanted a bump, and just this year finally got one. Yeah they are old gas sucking rigs that require repair etc. But they are reliable, tough, and almost bullet proof. Easy and fun to work on. I get around 12mpg with my 360, not great but its 40 years old. If you love older trucks and dont mind spending a day or two a month under a shade tree go for it. It you want something that requires no attention you need something newer. I love mine and unless im stricken with severe financial crisis its staying part of my Ford Family.

If it were me personally, since he himself didnt trust the brakes, i would try to use that as a bargaining tool and offer him $1600. Stating that it would take me a few hundred dollars to make it a safe driver. just my 2cents. Al

Hey Volfan. Welcome to the site. Here in Idaho, most the trucks I've seen go for around $1000 to $1500. I inherited two of my trucks and bought the third not running for $900. They do require work seeing how old they are but they are worth it in my opinion. If all looks good with the truck, try offering $1600 like Alvald83 said and see if he goes for it. These trucks are fun to own and easy to work on. Good luck.
