Hood security

Post by jp2005 »

So one of my friends has a older chevy and came back out from the store and the truck didnt start, the theft even shut the hood after taking the battery. So he was stuck until someone came and picked him up. I thought it would be a good idea to lock up my hood to keep someone from stealing parts. I 've been thinking why didnt ford put locks on there hoods or hood latches, but I guess there wasnt as much crime back then as now. Aspecially living in the city! I have a chain loop bolted to my front inner well and locked a chain to it. Any good stories guys? Well take that back any bad stories?

sorry for the pic, my phone doesnt take the best pics

I like to think of them as good stories of moments gone bad. As for ym truck, no. Well, my ford truck, no. I've got plenty of stories for the rest of the vehicles owned...

i run my chains around the core support top and through the hood holes in the front. you can lift the hood tall enough to unlock the lock. thats about it.

Sure wish there was such a thing as a inside release for a hood lock for my 68, but a chain works.

Inside release? Well, couldn't one be modified from, like a mid '90's?

Good idea with the chain! Also prevents the hood from opening up while driving, for the case that the hood latch fails. Will put a chain on mine once the engine is rebuilt.

But if someone is about to steal engine parts, he might probably carry the right tools and the chain won´t stop him then..

has anybody looked into using the hood latch/cable off a 96-2000's dodge ram? they have a similar latch system and it bolts to the hood.

I'm interested in a security hood lock for my 67 F100. I can get cut proof chain from local hardware store. I can get a cut proof lock from walmart.

Brutus, That's not a bad idea. If my side job pays well enough, I may go to the junk yard and grab one and see if it works.
