Same here, saw it on the news when I got home this morning and was checking the pics hard to see if I could spot his truck. I couldn't see it in the pics so I hope he is okay.

Just read that on Yahoo, Thats horrible. But racing always will have its dangers. If yu want to get that close to the track you take that chance. Personally I wouldnt try to get that close. I will and hope others say a prayer for the people families. So unfortunate!

That is sad news. Another sad thing is there will be so many people trying to ban that kind of racing now.

Thanks for the thoughts, I'm fine, I wasn't at that race... luckily.
A very bad day for the off-road industry. I feel just as bad for the driver and co-driver as i do for the people that lost their lives. That could of happened to anyone, he came over a jump and didn't land right, and with spectators so close to the track as they always are, nothing good could happen. The driver is a member of another forum I'm on but I do not know him personally.

Green people arn't just starting now, they have been closing the desert down to vehicles for years. They just recently took over tons of desert land to protect some rare species. They are always looking for things on the forums to shut us down even more and unfortunately they now have so much more potential.
The news is making this 100x worse. Every thing they say is so far from the truth and hurts our sport so much. They need to shut their mouths until they get facts.

Sad to hear.

Ryan, I know from personal experience that the news will say anything to make a story. Even if it means flipping the story around and putting someone out of business just for that one story.

For some reason when you are 10 feet from the track, along side hundreds of other people, people think they are safe. I have stood 10feet from a track... on the inside of a corner... there are some spots you just don't stand. Such as after a jump, beside the track.

That's one of the big scary's for me too, ALthough i am not yet as fast as a 1450 truck like the one that rolled, I can still just as easily lose it. I tend to slow down and hover the brake pedal when people are gathered by the track (exception being the pro photographer where I gassed it for the shot, but she was beside the jump not after).

It's scary stuff knowing what can happen in one second...

Yeah, I knew that news made things more exciting with the use of some words but this is ridiculous. The news just battered the sport. Some said that the driver drove the truck into the crowd, making it seem like the driver was out to kill 8 people. What part of an accident don't they understand.
We (as in all offroaders on the forums) were trying to not let ANY video or pictures leak out but some have sold their shots to the news as you have seen on tv...
Pretty lame.

Simple but true, that sport just had an axe shoved in it's heart. That organization will be sued out of existance or at the very least the BLM won't allow another race without the correct management. Yes 100 miles of safety fence and enough flagmen to control the race and stop it if something unsafe happens is expensive but you just can't trust a herd of 20 somethings to do intellegent things

I haven't heard much more detail than what the news has said, but the driver of the truck is my wifes cousin.
